“The Green Thing”

The Green Thing In the line at the store, the cashier told an older woman that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren’t good for the environment.

The woman apologized to him and explained, “We didn’t have the green thing back in my day.” The clerk responded, “That’s our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment.”

He was right — our generation didn’t have the green thing in its day.

Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled. But we didn’t have the green thing back in our day.

We walked up stairs, because we didn’t have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn’t climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks. But she was right. We didn’t have the green thing in our day.

Back then, we washed the baby’s diapers because we didn’t have the throw-away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts — wind and solar power really did dry the clothes. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that old lady is right; we didn’t have the green thing back in our day.

Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house — not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn’t have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used a wadded up old newspaper to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn’t fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn’t need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she’s right; we didn’t have the green thing back then.

We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But we didn’t have the green thing back then. Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn’t need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint. But isn’t it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn’t have the green thing back then?

Eat for Fuel not Fulfilment

Eating for fuel

Clean healthy eating, a key to wellness

Food is our primary source of energy.  Meals ideally should consist of foods that are going to provide you with clean energy.  After eating you should feel energized, if you are feeling tired and lazy chances are you’re not eating the right food combinations.  This can lead to poor digestion, acid reflux, constipation and even headaches.  Focus on eating a healthybalanced diet.   Reduce all preservatives, food additives and chemically saturated foods. Commit to eating a healthy fresh organic diet that is full of colorful fresh produce.  This simple step can help improve your total quality of life. Don’t hesitate….

“Thought Poison”

Refrain from “thought poison”, this is the negative useless talk also known as gossip.  Nothing positive comes from gossip.  Go on a “thought poison free diet”, this is where you will filter out anything that 1. Will not move you closer towards your goals, or 2. Help others.

Give it a try for a week and see how you feel.

The Canadian flag does not fly…….

The Canadian flag does not fly because the wind moves past it. The Canadian flag flies from the last breath of each military member who has died protecting it. Canadian soldiers, sailors and airmen and women don’t fight because they hate what’s in front of them…they fight because they love what’s behind them.

To be successful in anything you do overcoming…

To be successful in anything you do overcoming the fear of being rejected is crucial. It’s simple to say and definitely harder to do but you need to stop worrying about what other people might say about you. So many times people hold themselves back simply because of what their friends might say if they did something different. If you are tired of the same old thing you must look towards doing something that is going to bring you the change you need even if its uncomfortable.

Here is a quote from Author Robert Kiyosaki-

“One of the best phrases I have heard was “What you think, of me is none of my business.
What is most important is what I think about myself”.

Why do we hold emotional tension and frustration…

Why do we hold emotional tension and frustration in and try to push it deep down inside? We know its there, we think about them every moment of the day, but yet we try to pretend that it doesn’t exist. Is it that we have been taught that this is a sign of weakness? I would love to hear peoples opinions.

We burn an excessive amount of energy both mental and physical keeping these emotions down. It’s kinda like trying to hold a big beach ball under water. The ball keeps trying to make its way to the surface but we wrestle to keep it subdued. Until one day when we least expect it, whammo it blows up in our faces leaving us no choice but to deal with it. For most people after this happens there is a huge feeling of relief that’s been lifted.

If we don’t allow ourselves to express these emotions and work towards improving them, it will eventually create health challenges for us down the road.

Start today stop being so tough on yourself and smile……

I taught a tai chi class yesterday, I am so proud of the people in the class. They will soon be certified corporate tai chi masters. Once they achieve that level, they will simply laugh at stress in the workplace….Way to go masters in training.
